From Dr. Stillman: “We had a patient that came in with a septic abdomen through the ER during my internship. She was sent to surgery and did great through surgery, however after surgery her albumin dropped like a rock and she became extremely edematous and lethargic, febrile, and really unstable. She was transferred to the ICU team and immediately transfused with 5 vials of albumin, then trickle transfused another 5 vials overnight. She was with us for another 5 days, steadily improving after her transfusions. It was amazing to be paged a few days later to go up front “real quick before you miss her” and see her bouncing around happy as could be. That was a huge win and a great reminder that even stable cases can become critical at any point.”

Dr. Stillman is an avid reader and is always taking recommendations.
