Dr. Kimberly Guzmán, DVM (she/her/hers) is a first-generation Ecuadorian American Latinx/a veterinarian. She graduated from Rutgers University-Newark with her Bachelor's degree (BA, majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology). Prior to veterinary school, she worked as a medical assistant at a pediatrician’s office. She has also worked in various research labs studying insects, horses, immunology, and has done field work with lizards and birds at the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador. She has worked as a veterinary kennel attendant, veterinary receptionist, and veterinary nurse.

She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU), for which she was the Vice President of the Class of 2023. During her time in veterinary school, she mentored pre-veterinary students and co-founded Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Club to help increase diversity in the veterinary profession. During vet school, she formed part of the Latinx Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA), in which she was able to learn about other Latinx veterinary professionals and helped start a “Spanish for Veterinary Professionals” course for her vet school.

She chose the veterinary medicine profession because she loves to alleviate pets' pain and help clients take care of their best friends.

Her interests include working with small companion animals (dogs and cats), working with exotic companion animals (small mammals, birds, reptiles), working with zoo animals and wildlife. Her personal hobbies include playing soccer, karaoke, traveling, dancing, and spending time with family. She is fluent in English and Spanish. She is very passionate about mentoring pre-veterinary students!
