VMD - University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine
After Dr. Kalkus graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University, she spent 2 years in Miami, FL, working as a veterinary nurse in a general practice. In her spare time, she also volunteered at Zoo Miami and did non-invasive behavioral research with owl monkeys and macaques at a nearby conservancy. She has always had a strong interest in zoo and exotic medicine, but through vet school became additionally interested in oncology, cardiology, hospice care, and One-Health in general!
Dr. Kalkus loves helping strengthen the human-animal bond! She thinks animals are such an important part of the world we share, in so many ways. It makes her so happy to see that bond flourish and improve the lives of people and animals, whether that is through our pets, farm animals, zoo animals, wildlife, etc!
Dr. Kalkus loves how dedicated every member of the veterinary team is, especially at Oradell Animal Hospital. It has been a joy to learn from and work with so many experienced and knowledgeable professionals. Some of her favorite moments are teaching clients about what is going on with their pet and getting to send them home from the hospital.
In Dr. Kalkus' free time, she loves musical theatre and dance and is definitely a “former” theatre kid. She’s a self-proclaimed thrifting queen and loves doing nail art for herself and others. She’s always looking for a new way to explore the field of veterinary medicine, whether that be visiting a niche conservation site or working with a volunteer organization outside of work/school.
