Ian is a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Exotic Companion Animals, bringing extensive experience and a unique perspective to the care of reptiles, amphibians, and other non-traditional pets. He graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 2000 and has worked in general practice, laboratory sciences, emergency medicine, exotic animal, and wildlife medicine. Ian earned his VTS certification through the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Clinical Practice in 2018.
His professional interests include reptiles, amphibians, anesthesia, hematology, research, and fieldwork. Ian is actively involved in mentoring, credentialing, and examination committees, and currently serves as Examination Chair for his specialty.
Ian is a member of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians and regularly lectures at their annual conferences, as well as other national and local continuing education events. He is widely published, contributing to articles, manuscripts, and book chapters, and remains engaged in multiple ongoing research projects to advance the field of exotic animal medicine.
