Kimberly Guzmán

Veterinary Support

My name is Dr. Kimberly Guzmán (she/her/hers) and I am an Ecuadorian-American Latinx/a veterinarian working at Oradell Animal Hospital. I graduated from Rutgers University-Newark with my Bachelors degree (BA, majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology). Prior to veterinary school I worked as a medical assistant at a pediatrician’s office. I have also worked in various research labs studying insects, horses, immunology, and have even done field work with lizards and birds at the Galápagos Islands. I have helped publish various papers in these labs.  I have worked in various positions at a small animal veterinary hospital (including working in the kennel, as a receptionist, and as a veterinary nurse) prior to veterinary school.

I obtained my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU), for which I was the Vice President of the Class of 2023. During my time in veterinary school I helped mentor pre-veterinary students and co-founded Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Club to help increase diversity in the veterinary profession. During vet school I also formed part of the Latinx Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA) in which I was able to learn about other Latinx veterinary professionals and helped find community. I chose the veterinary medicine profession because I love to alleviate pets from pain and help clients take care of their best friends.

My interests include working with small companion animals (dogs and cats) and working with exotic companion animals (small mammals, birds, reptiles). My personal hobbies include playing soccer, karaoke, traveling, dancing, and spending time with family. I am also very passionate about mentoring pre-veterinary students. I am fluent in English and Spanish.

I am part of a couple veterinary associations for dogs, cats, exotics, and zoological medicine:

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)

New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association (NJVMA)

Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV)

Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV)

Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV)

American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (AAZV)

Latinx Veterinary Medical Association (LVMA)

Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA)
