Warning about Jerky Treats and Your Pet
Pets continue to get sick and even die after consuming jerky treats (usually of chicken origin) according to a new report published this week by the FDA. Although the majority of complaints involve dogs, cats have also been affected. The most common problems observed related to jerky treats include:
- Diarrhea and vomiting
- Fanconi Syndrome (loss of certain substances such as glucose in the urine)
- Kidney failure
- Death
After extensive research the exact cause of these jerky treat related illnesses has not been determined and remains a mystery. Since jerky treats are not an essential part of your pet’s diet it seems prudent to us to avoid any risk, and thus our recommendation is to avoid feeding your pet any type of jerky treats at this time.
