Oradell Animal Hospital, in keeping with its mission of compassionate care, is pleased to offer a Pet Bereavement Group for those mourning the loss of their precious animal companions. The group meets once a month on Monday evenings at 7:00 PM. Group focus includes the sharing of memories, receiving support throughout the grieving process and honoring the lives of our very special friends. Participants may attend up to eight sessions, which do not have be attended concurrently and which are offered free of charge. Respecting the privacy of attendees, there is no formal registration process. The group is for family members of the deceased pet only from ages 16 and up.
The group is facilitated by Susan Stone, LCSW a licensed clinical social worker with certifications in bereavement and who is also a Delta Society Evaluator and Pet Partner Instructor. Ms. Stone initiated Animal Assisted Therapy Programs on several psychiatric units at Bergen County hospitals, and writes and speaks on the importance of the animal-human bond.
